Criminal killed by Mob justice in Lusaka

One suspected criminal has died after he was beaten by a mob in Lusaka’s Kabwata area.

The victim who is yet to be identified was together with his colleague when they attacked a 28-year-old man only identified as Lukonde on October 25, 2023 around 02:00 hours in Kabwata.

The two suspects who were armed with iron bars, attacked the victim as he was dropping off his friend.

They demanded for money and as the victim was transacting, one of them grabbed the cellular phone and ran away. It is at this point that the victim gave chase and shouted for help. Member of the community responded and managed to apprehend the suspect. He was beaten and sustained fatal head injuries as well as a broken right leg.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the development in a statement that Police officers who visited the scene found the suspect unconscious and was immediately rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police were later informed that the suspect died at 05:00 hours.

The body is in the hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
