Police in Kanyama have arrested and Charged a-22-year-old man for the offence of Rape.
Mutumbula Kashimu the accused is alleged to have raped a-27-year-old woman of Kanyama Township.
This occurred on October 1, 2023 around 2100 hours in Kanyama Township of Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said brief facts of the matter are that, the victim was on her way home from work around 21:00 hours when she met the accused with his friends who were chasing three other girls.
He said the perpetrator stopped when he saw her and called her, she tried to ignore him but he grabbed her and removed a knife from his short and threatened to kill her if she shouted for help. He then led her to an abandoned house where he raped her.
He said she later managed to escape when the suspect saw another woman whom he started to pursue and reported to the police.
“Police visited the scene of crime and the Suspect has been detained in custody. He will appear in court soon.
“Rape is an act of violence that inflicts physical and emotional trauma on victims. It is a criminal offense punishable under the law, and those found guilty will face severe consequences, including imprisonment,” he said.
