Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSC) has assured its customers in Chingola that the water supplied to them is safe during the incident that was reported on the media that a dead body was found near the Kafue Treatment plant.
Mulonga is aware of the media reports concerning a human body found in Kafue River by Zambia Police.
MWSC Managing Director Ndilakulampa Hamalambo said the body was found downstream (After the pump station) of the water treatment plant.
Mr Hamalambo said the reference to MWSC in the incident reports are purely because the Water Treatment Plant is the biggest land mark along Kafue River in Chingola.
He said any measures the Company and other stakeholders took were merely precautionary and did not affect the water abstracted.
Mr Hamalambo said the referenced made by the Police was to describe the proximity of the scene.
“The Company is one of the biggest abstractors of raw water from Kafue River and appreciates the efforts of the Local Authority and police to protect the river water quality.
“MWSC is saddened by the unfortunate incident and hope the Zambia Police will find conclusive answers for the family of the deceased to find closure. The Company expresses its deep sympathies,” he said.
