By CHILUBA CHABI
In a compelling move to bolster gender equality within the nation’s spheres of influence, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, passionately advocates for the revival of the Ministry of Gender.

Ms Mutti asserts that Zambia must reinstate the Ministry of Gender to provide essential policy guidance, addressing the country’s ongoing disparity in meeting international gender equality standards.

Speaking in Lusaka during the commemoration of the Supreme Court’s Golden Jubilee, Mrs. Mutti emphasized the urgency of this endeavor. The Golden Jubilee celebrations were held under the theme “Evolution of Women in Law in Zambia.”

During the same event, Mwangala Zaloumis, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), proposed the creation of the Political Parties’ Act, incorporating provisions aimed at amplifying the involvement of women in politics.

Meanwhile, Florence Mumba, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia, lauded the judiciary’s remarkable strides in advancing female representation in decision-making roles. Mrs. Mumba, who also previously served as a judge at the International Court of Justice, pointed to the prominent female lawyers who have played pivotal roles in the judiciary.
