Solwezi Mayor engages stakeholders dealing in building materials

In an effort to improve the current state of routes leading to borrow pits in Kajoba, Sandangombe and Kimale areas, His Worship the Mayor Mr. Remmy Kalepa today engaged some construction companies that transport silica sand, quarry sand, gravel and other building material from the aforementioned areas where they frequent for business.

Speaking during the meeting, the Mayor stressed that maintenence of the road network requires concerted efforts hence calling for the meeting to discuss potential improvements and possibility of a road maintenance partnership.

Mr. Kalepa noted that the demand for better roads is very high hence the need for other stakeholders to come on board and work with the Local Authority.

He added that the business community needs to take ownership of the roads they are using by possibly maintaining them.

The Mayor pointed out that the construction companies need to seriously engage in Corporate Social Responsibility activities so that the communities where they are doing business from, can appreciate the development rather than complain about lack of jobs and excess dust emissions, among other issues.
Mr. Kalepa expressed delight that the business community is more than willing to work with the Council to ensure that the Kajoba, Kapijimpanga and Sandangombe roads are worked on.

In attendance at the meeting was the Deputy Mayor Mr Alex Pupe, Kimale ward Councillor Mr Adrian Nkolomba and Kamalamba ward Councillor Mr Loves Soneka. The Town Clerk Mr Stanley Mbewe was also present, besides representatives from Olibul Investments, Kokeb and Star Blocks.
