Five people have died while three others sustained serious injuries in a fatal road traffic accident, after the vehicles they were traveling in collided in Chisamba District along the Great North Road.
The Victims, all male persons, have not yet been identified including the driver of the Hino Ranger bearing registration number ABR 2565.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said only one victim from the SINO Truck and trailer bearing registration numbers AIC 6508 and BAR 9601 was Identified as Hendrix Hamainza 30, of Kanyama Township in Lusaka.
Mr Mwale said the SINO Truck and trailer, belonging to Kazumba Trucking was driven by Sadok Tembo aged 35 of Makeni in Lusaka and had three male passengers on board. They were heading towards Lusaka.
He said the accident occurred on August 28, 2023 around 16:30 hours at Trotters area in Chisamba District.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened when the driver of the Hino Ranger with four passengers on board, while driving towards Chibombo District, failed to keep to his near-side lane and went to hit into the SINO Truck and trailer which moving in the opposite direction.
“Five people including the driver of the HINO Ranger sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Chisamba District Hospital. Their bodies were deposited in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and while the injured victims are receiving treatment at Liteta Hospital,” he said.
Sadok Tembo escaped with minor injuries. He was treated at Liteta Hospital and later discharged.
The HINO Ranger was extensively damaged while the other Truck had its cabin damaged.
