Tourism Minister in Mauritius for 66th Regional CAF, UNWTO Conference

Minister of Tourism Honorable Rodney Sikumba is in Pointe Aux Piments, Mauritius for the 66th Session Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

This year’s CAF meeting  is being convened under the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism for Africa: Promoting Investment and Partnerships; Addressing Global Challenges.

The conference seeks to explore innovative ways of promoting investment, partnerships and sustainable growth in the African Tourism Sector.

Mr. Sikumba  together with other African Ministers  are participating at the panel discussion  on Rethinking Tourism for Africa: Addressing Global Challenges: Promoting Investment and Partnerships,in the company of  His .Excellency Louis Steven Obeegadoo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning,Minister of Tourism of Mauritius and UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili.

The CAF meeting and UNWTO conference is an annual gathering of African Ministers and key tourism stakeholders aimed at discussing the development of tourism in Africa and UNWTO priorities in line with strategic plans of each Member State.

The high-level conference  provides a platform for experts, industry partners and influential leaders from both public and private sectors industry partners to network and share best practices on sustainable tourism development agenda of their respective countries and the Africa region.

The conference will further provide a unique opportunity to engage with key tourism players, exchange experiences and gain insights into the latest trends and developments in the sector in light of the challenges facing the tourism sector globally which includes climate change, changing consumer preferences and the effects of COVID 19.

Through networking, collaboration and learning, participants will discuss and work together to develop new approaches and strategies with the aim of developing the tourism sector as a catalyst for sustainable economic and social development.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Sikumba is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts and the UNWTO Secretary General.

The Minister is accompanied to Mauritius by Embassy of Zambia, France Chargé d’affaires Chrissy Hilweele, Tourism Attaché Twaambo Muzyamba,Ministry of Tourism Acting Director Chilala  Habasimbi and Tourism Development and Research Officer Annette Hatembo.

The CAF meeting which is currently underway comes to a close July 28, 2023.
