Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament (MP) Twaambo Mutinta says the proposal by National Action for Quality Education in Zambaia (NAQEZ) to establish a financial institution to be giving cheaper loans and other financial services to teachers must be supported.

Mr Twaambo said that it is a commendable idea.

Being an educationist and having a lot of Interactions with teachers across the country, iam aware that most of our teachers are heavily indebted. This chocking indebtedness among educators is a serious source because it affects their performance in class,” he said.

He said it is possible that teachers in Zambia can put resources together to set up their own bank for very cheap loans.

Mr Twaambo said these affordable loans can help teachers to invest in various sectors of the economy for personal and community success.

“I call upon all teachers in the country to support this initiative because it is very progressive and game changing .With proper management and strong institutional and governance policies and structures in place, this bank can help many of our teachers to come out of indebtedness” he said.

He has urged educational stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education, Teaching Council of Zambia, the Unions and the Teaching Service Commission to seriously consider giving teachers capacities in financial literacy.
