The Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima is in Rome, Italy for the UN Food Systems Stocktaking Moment scheduled for 24 to 26 July 2023.
The Minister is accompanied by senior government officials from the Office of the Vice President, Ministry of Education, National Food and Nutrition Commission and the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Italy will also be part of the delegation.
The three-day summit will review progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, focusing on the transformation of food systems ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGGs) summit in September, 2023.
The Summit is being hosted by Italy in collaboration with the Rome-Based UN Agencies (FAO, IFAD, WFP) the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and the wider UN system.Other organisations supporting the initiative include the World Health Organisation(WHO), the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO).
The objectives of the Summit is to provide opportunities for countries to report on progress made at the national level since the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021 as well as their contributions and achievements of the 2030 agenda.
The UN Food systems Coordination which was established in 2022 supports countries develop and implement their national agrifood systems transformation pathways.
The summit will bring together Heads of State, Senior Government Officials and other relevant stakeholders including the Civil Society, academia and the private sector
The 2023 Stocktaking Moment will reaffirm the commitment of the International Community to accelerate progress toward the achievement of the SDGs.
