Mother burn daughter’s hand for eating a pot of relish

A-woman of Ndola has been arrested for burning the hands of her 4-year-old daughter for allegedly eating a pot of relish she had prepared.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that on July 16, 2023 around 20:00 hours the suspect went home from the Hummer mill.

Mr Mweemba said when she entered the house as she was putting down the bag of mealie meal next to the pot of relish, the pot of relish fell off and she observed that the pot was empty.

He said the suspect called her daughter and asked her if she is the one who had eaten the relish that she had cooked however, the victim did not respond.

“The victim then went to the bedroom and she was  followed by the suspect who according to her described the victim as a person who has a habit of stealing things in the house and it is from the same old habits that the suspect strongly suspected that the victim could be the one who had eaten the relish and to that effect she took the hands of the victim and put them on the blaizer until the child started crying that is when she removed the hands resulting in the victim to sustain burns on both hands,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said that upon realizing what she had done to the victim, the suspect tried to cover up on her mistake but concerned neighbors came to the aid of the victim by apprehending the suspect who was later handed over to the police and the matter was officially reported.

He said medical report form was issued to the victim and the same has been admitted at Aurther Davison’s children’s hospital of Ndola.

A docket opened and arrest made on the suspect who will appear in court soon.
