The Immigration Department has detained 57 -suspected prohibited immigrants in Chibombo district.
The group comprising 54 suspected Ethiopians and 3 -Somalis were intercepted on July 16th 2023 at around 22- hours by Police Officers at Chisamba Police Check Point.
The suspects were aboard a containerized Volvo Truck Horse bearing registration and Trailer enroute to South Africa.
Immigration Department Public Relations Officer Namati Nshiika says Police intercepted the truck following a tip-off from a concerned member of the public.
Mr Nshiinka says driver of the Truck, Bydn Mwambi 45, of Lusaka’s Chawama Compound, and his Lorry Boy Martin Mulenga, 43 of Livingstone’s Maramba Compound have also been apprehended for aiding and abetting the suspected illegal immigrants.
And Mr Nshiinka said the Kabwe Immigration Office has detained 52 suspected illegal immigrants following a Department of Immigration clean-up operation conducted in the early hours of July 13th, 2023.
The 52 detained were 28 Burundians, 14 Congolese, and five Rwandese, three persons claiming Zambian citizenship, one Indian, and one Tanzanian.
