Govt committed to resolving KCM issues soon- Kabuswe

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The Minister of Mines and Minerals, Paul Kabuswe, has expressed the government’s commitment to resolving the issues surrounding KCM (Konkola Copper Mines) and is optimistic that a decision will be reached that satisfies both the community and the investor.

Furthermore, Kabuswe emphasized the significance of the Church in Zambia, stating that no government can effectively function without its partnership in the country’s development.

Speaking during the induction service for Reverend David Mujumila of St. Marks Congregation in Chingola on Sunday, Kabuswe acknowledged that the government values the Church’s voice.

“The Church is a crucial component of national development, and the government is not in conflict with it. When the Church speaks, the government listens,” Kabuswe asserted.

He further emphasized the role of the Church in holding the government accountable and correcting any wrongdoings. Kabuswe believes that the Church has a responsibility to reprimand the government when necessary and work together to address the issues affecting the community and the nation.

In his address, Bishop Rev. Dr. Charles Lungu of the Copperbelt Presbytery highlighted the importance of authentic leadership in the Church and the nation. He stated that God seeks preachers and national leaders who can effectively convey His agenda and mission.

“The Church is called to collaborate with the community in addressing its challenges and driving an authentic agenda,” Bishop Lungu proclaimed. He emphasized the need for leaders with genuine motives in all sectors, urging preachers to deliver authentic messages that do not merely cater to people’s desires.

Reverend David Mujumila was officially inducted and warmly welcomed at St. Marks UCZ in Chingola on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Reverend Mujumila completed his theological training at Theological College in 2003 and has since served in various locations, including Zambezi for five years, Solwezi for four years at Trinity, and as Bishop in North-Western from 2012 to 2015.

In 2016, he was transferred to Ndola South Consistory, and from 2018 to December 2022, he served there. In January 2023, he was transferred to the Chingola Consistory at St. Marks Congregation, where he currently serves.
