MIMBULA MINE IN SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS

By Kunda Mahata
Some female workers at the newly opened Mimbula Mine in Chingola have alleged that they are being sexually harassed at the mine in the name of being recognized and possibly getting promoted.

A lady who sought anonymity has told iwave news that she has experienced sexual harassment first hand which has left her traumatized and frustrated to the core.

She said it is so unfortunate that only those ladies willing to give themselves are getting ahead and being promoted.

She has wondered why ladies should be taken advantage of in order to get ahead when they are well qualified for the positions.

The lady said, what is even more worrying is that management has not really done anything to handle the situation despite reporting the cases severally.

However, Mimbula Minerals Human Resource Manager, Upite Chishika has refuted the allegations, terming them as baseless.

Mr. Chishika said the company has very strong policies against the harassment of women. He said all the workers at Mimbula Mine are aware of the consequences involved in engaging in such vices.

He said his office has so far not received such reports from any female worker.

Mr. Chishika said if such is happening, parties involved should report to the HR and the police so that the law takes its course.
