Man nabbed for stealing Chieftainess Shimukunami’s cows

A-34-year-old man of Lufyanyama has been arrested for allegedly stealing six herds of cows worth K72, 000, belonging to Chieftainess Shimukunami.

Brief facts are that the animals were locked up and secured in the kraal around 18:00hours on June 9, 2023.

But on June 10, 2023 around 08:00hours, they discovered that the animals were missing from the kraal and unknown persons had opened the kraal and went away with the six animals.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the community organized themselves and started searching for the animals.

Mr Mweemba said around 14:00hours they managed to trace the suspect in Bwembya area of Mukutuma Chiefdom heading to Lumpuma area.

He said they managed to apprehend the suspect and recovered all the six animals alive.

“The Chief’s Retainer reported the matter at Lufwanyama Police Station and handed over the suspect to the police,” he said.

And in another development a-32- year-old Business man of Kitwe’s Kamitondo area has been suspected to have committed suicide by locking himself in the family house and set the bedroom in which he was on fire.

The Victim sustained fire burns all over his body.

Brief facts of the matter are that on June, 10th, 2023 the Mwanza family had a funeral where they lost one of their relative in the hospital.

“All the family members went and gathered at Bulangililo Township, leaving the now victim who was unwell with other four relatives, including his wife, and at around 16:00 hours, he started behaving strangely by telling whoever family member was at home that someone had posted him on social media, this surprised the family members and shortly after that, he stood up from where he was seated outside the house and ran into the house,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said the wife followed him, and when she tried to open the door to the house, it was blocked by the now deceased using a kitchen unit.

“A few minutes later, the people who were trying to push the door noticed smoke coming out of the bedroom where the now deceased person was. That is how they teamed up with neighbors, but when the door was pushed open, fire had Burnt, everything in the bedroom, and the now deceased was seen lying helplessly on the burnt bed,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said that the fire brigade officers, together with the Police rushed to the scene, and the fire fighters managed to quench the inferno
