AIRTEL ZAMBIA LAUNCHES HD CALLS

Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati has challenged Airtel Zambia to release affordable smartphones on the market.

Mr. Mutati said smart phones at affordable prices will enable ordinary Zambian access to advanced mobile phone service provision.

Speaking in Lusaka yesterday when he officiated at the launch of High Definition (HD) calls in the country by Airtel, the Minister said Zambians can only access such services when they own smartphones.

He lamented that lack of access to mobile phones is a barrier to innovation.

Mr. Mutati however, thanked Airtel Zambia for coming up with the technology that enables HD calls.
He urged the firm to continue investing heavily into the improvement of service provision.

Airtel Zambia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Manu Sood said his firm is the first to offer the service in the country.

Mr Sood explained that HD calls offer instant connection and subscribers are able talk and use the internet at the same time.
