Former Health Minister involved in Road Accident

Former Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya and his four year old daughter have been involved in a serious Road Traffic Accident near Misisi Footbridge along Kafue Road

The accident occurred on April 6, 2023 around 19:00 hours in which Dr Chitalu Chilufya and his 4-year-old daughter sustained injuries.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the accident happened along Kafue Road near Misisi Footbridge when a 34-year-old man identified as Michael Chimunjeche  cut in front of Dr Chilufya.

Mr Mwale said the driver of a Benz Truck bearing registration number 1927 cut in front of Dr Chilufya who was driving a Nissan Patrol bearing registration number ABA 5707 with his daughter on board.

He said Dr Chilufya was driving towards the Central Business District while the Benz Truck was joining Kafue road from Misisi Shoprite area.

“Dr Chilufya’s vehicle had its front part extensively damaged while the Benz Truck had its left rear rim and lights damaged. Micheal Chimunjeche survived the incident without any injuries while Dr Chilufya and the daughter were rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals for medical attention. An inquiry file into the matter has been opened,” he said.

In a similar development police recorded a fatal Road Traffic Accident in which a woman who was identified as Mirriam Tembo 30, of unknown house number in Garden Compound, Kanele area died after sustaining fatal injuries.

Mr Mwale said the victim was hit by a motorbike bearing registration number ZP 3074 on April 6, 2023 around 18:00 hours when she was crossing the road (Tokyo way) near Selena Trust School in Chalala area.

He said she was rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Rider of the motorbike identified as Constable Mungala aged 33 of State House Police camp survived with injuries and is admitted to the Hospital where he is receiving treatment. The motorbike is extensively damaged.

The body of the victim was deposited in University Teaching Hospitals mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police have opened an inquiry file into the incident.
