The Mpika Immigration Office on February 27, 2023 secured the conviction of a Tanzanian national for aiding and abetting an illegal Immigrant.
He was handed over to Immigration by Police after he was apprehended on December 9, 2022 at Mpika Checkpoint aboard an in-transit bus headed for Kariba carrying an undocumented Ethiopian.
He was sentenced to two years simple imprisonment without the option of a fine.
Immigrations Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka said the same Office on 27 and 28 February, 2023 also secured the convictions of 41 Ethiopians for the offence of failure to appear before an Immigration Officer.
Mr Nshinka said they were each sentenced to pay a fine of K1, 500 or in default 6 months simple imprisonment.
Similarly, the Isoka Immigration Office has secured the conviction of a 45-year-old Tanzanian Truck Driver, Ally Mussa Amory for aiding and abetting illegal Immigrants.
He was sentenced to pay a fine of K 60,000 or in default 24 months simple imprisonment.
In another development, the Isoka Immigration Office has apprehended a 43-year-old Zambian Truck Driver of Lusaka’s Zanimuone together with three undocumented Somalia and one Ethiopian immigrants.
The five were intercepted on 28th February, 2023 at around 16:45 hours at Mwaiseni Checkpoint after an alert Immigration Officer spotted two Somalis and one Ethiopian hidden in a modified compartment on the chassis of a Zambian registered Volvo truck registration number BAZ 553.
The other Somalian was later found hidden in the cabin of the Horse of the Truck. All five suspects are detained at Isoka Police station pending prosecution while the Timber laden truck has been impounded.
