A-42-year-old man of Sakania area in Ndola has been arrested for allegedly stealing 269 fresh maize valued at K1,345 in a field.
Brief facts are that between February 1 and 28, 2023 Sililo Monde 53, the owner of the farm has been experiencing theft of fresh cobs of maize at her farm in which unknown persons have been trespassing into the field and stealing maize.
On Tuesday February 28, 2023 in the morning at around 03:00hours, one of the workers at the farm raid an ambush so that he could see who steals at the farm.
On the same day at around 05:00hrs in the morning, a man was spotted in the field stealing the maize and it was at that point through the help of the owner of the farm and neighbors that a man was apprehended within the field and with him he had 22 cobs of fresh maize in a sack.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the matter was reported at Sakania police station, and Police visited the maize field and confirmed the theft.
Mr Mweemba said when Boniface Chisenga the suspect was interviewed in connection with the theft of maize beside what he was found with, he confessed having been behind the theft of other cobs of maize which he has been taking to Congo DR for sale.
He said he later led the police to the scene of crime where he has been stealing the maize.
“The recovered cobs of maize have been returned to the owner after court disposal,” he said.
And in another incident another person has been nabbed for allegedly stealing a bull at a farm in Kafulafuta valued at K7000
Brief facts are that on Monday February 27, 2023 at around 18:00hours, the reporter secured all his four animals in a kraal, and everything was intact.
On 28.2.23 at around 0100hrs, he heard his animals making unusual sounds but he didn’t go out to check because it was raining heavily.
At around 08:30 hours, he went out with a view of taking the animals to the grazing area, that is when he discovered that one bull was missing.
On the same morning at around 09:30hrs, Police at Kafulafuta Station received an anonymous call from Mpongwe turn off stating that there were some people who were in possession of a carcass suspected to have been stolen and were looking for transport.
Police rushed to the scene and managed to apprehend one suspect and recovered the carcass. Later on, the said reporter identified the animal based on the skin, and the head recovered as his actual bull, which was stolen.
