A Catholic priest has urged leaders to introspect on what has gone wrong if the current economic hardships being faced by the country are to be remedied.
Speaking during Ash Wednesday Homily to mark the start of the Catholic Lenten period Fr. Justine Chikontwe of All Saints Parish in Chililabombwe said the solution to many ills in the society was because people are fond of looking at others and not themselves when things are not going right.
He said that during this period individual leaders should look at the decisions they have made and try to correct them and not always apportioning blame.
“The solution to the high prices of essential commodities like mealie meal and fuel is with the leaders. Open you hearts and see were you are going wrong. Let us all sympathize with people who are lacking basic needs.” He said.
“Even us as believers its fashionable to look at how things went wrong because of the actions of others, what about our role in these things which are going wrong. If the change we desire is to happen we all need to start with self-introspection.” He said
Fr. Chikontwe said that during this period the faithful should review their actions as the first step to revising future behaviors for the benefit of everyone.
“In the old Bibilical times people would rip their clothes to show remorse, now Jesus is telling us to rip our hearts and see where we went wrong. As a country and individuals let us all be sympathetic to plight of others especially those who are suffering. “ He said.
