124 meter CEC cable stolen

Unknown Criminals in Kitwe have cut and stolen 124 meters of an overhead 66KV copper conductor cable the property of Copperbelt Energy (CEC) valued at K15,748=00.

This occurred on February 22, 2023 at about 01:14hours between pole number 28 and 29 along CEC high power voltage lines at Mindolo- Chibuluma area.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that brief facts of the matter are that on February 22, 2023 around 01:14hours, some unknown criminals went and stole a copper conductor cable from the 66kv power line serviced by CEC.

Mr Mweemba said an alert alarm went off at CEC main switch station, forcing the security personnel to rush to the place.

He said that it was observed that part of a single line cable had been cut and stolen causing power interruption in some areas in Kalulushi and Chibuluma mines.

The matter was reported to police who went to the scene and found that part of a single line cable had been cut measuring up to 124 meters valued at K15, 748, and stolen,” he said.

Investigations have been instituted.
