Four measles cases reported in Mpulungu

Four confirmed measles cases have been recorded in Mpulungu and two cases in the neighbouring Senga District.

Northern Province Public Health Specialist PAUL Mayeya said 200 unconfirmed cases have also been reported.

And Dr Mayeya said Mungwi District recorded two cases which were suspected to be Cholera but it was discovered that the patients suffered of food poisoning which has since been treated.

And Dr Mayeya said that the Ministry of health targets to distribute 60,000 measles vaccines in Mpulungu District to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.

Eighteen thousand vaccines have so far been issued and a further 18,000 will be issued by Sunday.

He has assured that the Ministry of Health is on the ground in the Province to ensure that preventive measures of disease outbreaks are followed .

On Monday measles claimed the life of 12 children in Tanzania.
