A-42-year-old man of Pine Grove Kawama Township in Ndola has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the grilled door of his wife’s home, who he has been on separation with for seven months.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that on February 18, 2023 at 21:30 hours Peter Mulenga the victim left his home to visit his wife, whom he is currently on separation with due to marital issues within Pine Grove in Kawama Township.
Mr Mweemba said upon reaching the house where his wife stays, he started knocking on the door whilst calling her by her son’s name Bright.
He said the wife failed to open the door for him as he sounded drunk and for fear of been beaten.
Mr Mweemba said around 21:30 hours, the wife went to bed to sleep after her husband had stopped knocking and making noise.
“On February 19, 2023 around 06:00 hours when she woke up, she decided to open the main door so that she could start sweeping her yard. She was shocked to find that her husband had committed suicide,” he said.
He said Police visited the scene of crime and confirmed the incident.
Mr Mweemba said the body was found hanging, with a belt around his neck tied to the grill door.
He said the trousers that the victim was wearing were wet and smelling urine.
“No physical injuries were observed on the body. The wife was interviewed and disclosed that they went on separation about seven months ago due to the bad habits of drinking beer by the deceased. Later, the body of the deceased was taken to Ndola teaching hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.
