Masaiti businesswoman scammed K1,200

Abusiness woman of Masaiti district has been scammed a K1,200 after she traffered the money in the suspects account.

Melody Phiri a 47 year was given K1,200 after she had transferred the said money via MTN to Abraham Mubita age 35 which turned out to be counterfeit kwacha notes.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident occurred on February 17th 2023 at around 20:00hrs at Masangano market along Ndola-Kabwe rd in Masaiti district,

“Brief facts are that on February 17 2023 around 20:00hrs whilst the Melody was at her shop in Masangano area, the suspect Abraham Mubita did ask her to deposit K1,200 into his Mtn line via mobile money of which the she did,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said that upon receiving Ms Phiri discovered that it was not genuine money and decided to report to the police.

“ The suspect was apprehended and later handed over to the police. After being interviewed at the police station, he revealed that the source of the counterfeit money is Kapiri Mposhi district and the suspect is ready to lead the police,” he said.

Mr Mweemba also said arrangements are being made to contact Bank of Zambia,and a docket h opened,

“The suspect of counterfeit money will be subjected to an examination at Bank of Zambia as he remains in custody,” he said.
