Police in Lusaka have arrested 38 people for trespassing on Military land located in Kashitu area of Kapiri-Mposhi District.
The 38 who include 17 women trespassed on the 42 Zambia Army Battle Training Areas by way of squatting and cutting down trees.
Police instituted investigations following a report of people settling on Military land and on February 14, 2023 around 09:00 hours 38 people were picked from the Army Training area in Kashitu.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that they are all detained in Police custody charged with the offence of Criminal Trespass.
Mr Mwale said members of the public especially those squatting or have encroached on Military land are putting their lives in danger as training areas contain particals that may cause serious harm or even death.
He said Traditional leaders should relocate their people to other designated areas far from Military training areas as it will be dangerous for civilians to co-exist with trainees.
Mr Mwale said 12 people (Junkies) were arrested for Idle and Disorderly in Chawama Compound.
He said Police conducted an operation targeting ‘junkies’ after several complaints of attacks by members of the community in Chawama compound.
The operation was conducted between February 14, 2023 around 20:30 hours and February 15, 2023 around 02:00 hours in Chawama Compound.
The suspects, all males aged between 20 and 40 are detained in Police custody awaiting to be formally charged.
