Man attempt suicide due to poverty

A-19-year-old man of Kitwe’s Ipusukilo Township has been rescued after he threw himself into the Kafue River in an attempt to commit suicide.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Office Peacewell Mweemba said that the suspected said he wanted to commit suicide because of the hardships he is experiencing in his family due to poverty.

Mr Mweemba said brief facts are that on February 8, 2023, the suspect, without telling anyone went to the Council Bridge, Bulangililo and threw himself into the river in attempted to kill himself.

He said members of the public who saw him throwing himself in the river and being swept away by the strong current quickly followed and managed to retrieve him.

“He was rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he was resuscitated. When he was asked why he wanted to kill himself, he said it was because of Hardship and poverty he is experiencing. In the meantime, he is admitted for observation,” he said.
