Cooper cathodes rescued, one criminal shot

A-Criminal has been shot on the knee while two have run away as they were trying to steal copper cathodes on a moving truck along the international road near Kakoso stream.

This occurred Today, January 31, 2023 at 06:40hours along international road near Kakoso stream bridge in Chililabombwe.

The anti-robbery squad whilst conducting their routine patrols found three criminals on top of the truck trying to steal copper cathodes, by then criminals had already cut the tying copper bundles.
The patrols fired warning shots and criminals jumped off the moving truck trying to run away and unfortunately one was hit by the stray bullet on his left knee and sustained a bullet wound.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer said the officers rushed there and apprehended him, first aid was conducted and upon interviewing him he stated that his names are Marron Kaluchelo 33, of kakoso plots in Chililabombwe.
Mr Mweemba said he was searched and found with a matchete and a knife and he further revealed the people he was with and where they take the copper cathodes after stealing.
He said that on January 31, 2023 at around 0500hours the ant robbery officers booked out for patrols in an effort to curb rising thefty of copper cathodes on transit and goods on transit.
“whilst doing the patrols they spotted three criminals on top of the a HOWO truck registration # 2386 AT05 and trailer red in color reg#2390 AT05 which was driven by Mukalay Richard 49, of Congo DRC. Thé truck was carrying copper cathodes and the criminals had alreaddy cut the tying rods and upon spotting them they fired warning shots and criminals jumped off the moving truck and one criminal was hit by a stray bullet while others unknown run away into the bush,” he said.
Mr Mwemba said the criminal revealed other criminals he works with and the buyers of the same copper cathodes.
He was later rushed to the hospital for treatment.
