Twatasha Ward Councillor Jeff Mulenga has donated assorted school items worth k25, 000 to the grade Tens, eights and ones in his ward.
The assorted items include Exercise books, bag packs and pens to over 400 pupils.
Speaking when he handed over the books to the beneficiaries at Chikola Secondary School this morning Mr Mulenga urged the pupils to work hand and utilize the chance they have because Education is very important.
He said education will offer them access to doors that will make them move to great heights in life.
Mr Mulenga who briefly narrated his story to the pupils said he does not want to see other people go through the difficulties he went through in school.
He told narrated his struggles to get the school necessities and school fees hence the need for him to help were he can.
Mr Mulenga said that the future is bright for those people who choose to work hard in school as they are a lot of opportunities for them.
He thanked the new dawn government for the policy of free education as they have made it easy for parents.
“This is the second time I have given books to pupils in the ward and I will continue with this gesture and I want to assure the people that next year we will be buying books for all the pupils in other grade. And also when book finish for a pupil we will be buying for them new ones we don’t want children from Twatasha ward to say i didn’t get an education because no one was they to help me,” he said.
And UPND Chingola District Chairperson Scrivener Bwalya has commended the Councillor for the gesture in supplementing government effort toward Free Education.
Mr Bwalya said that the Councillors initiative of identifying the vulnerable in Society and give them books is encouraging.
He said in this manner Free education will be actualized as many people will have no other excuse to making for not going to school.
“The government is working on so many projects in the district through CDF and more sponsorship for skills bursaries and boarding fees are been given so even when the pupils are done with school they will go and get tertiary education in colleges,” he said.
The Parents and pupils have appreciated the gesture from the ward Councillor and hope the program continues as this has helped them a lot.
