Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia (MCMZ) has called for rural schools across the country to ascertain how many girls have fallen victim of child marriage during the December holidays.
MCMZ Executive Director Sibbuku Musokotwane said that school managers should conduct a detail stock of their learners as December holidays are prone to high levels of child marriage.
He said the recorded case of child marriage at Masopo Primary school barely two weeks after opening schools is an eye opener for other rural schools to take account of their learners.
Mr Musokotwane also said that poor road network linking rural schools and lack of environmentally friendly operation vehicles in responding to the daunting challenge of ending child marriage was a threat to the actualization of a free child marriage society.
He has warned members of the public to desist from marrying off child learners, describing the vice as detrimental to the health, education, economic development and general welfare of its victims globally.
Mr Musokotwane has called on government to work on the bridges linking rural schools to ensure the safety of children that are turning up in large numbers to attend school due to free education.
He was speaking during an operation to retrieve a pupil from Masopo Primary School who has eloped this term.
