Chibolya gang member nabbed for Robbery

Police in Chibolya Township have arrested John Mwanza 31, commonly known as ‘Konkili’ a gang mastermind for the offence of Assault and Aggravated Robbery.

After the apprehension of John along Ben Bella Extension Road, some members of his gang rose against the Police and blocked the road. They also attempted to damage property around the area.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the suspects failed to rescue their colleague and calm was  restored in the area.

He said Police officers are currently patrolling the area to make sure that law and order is maintained.

Mr Mwale said the incident occurred around 11:00 hours yesterday January 12, 2023 in Chibolya Township.

He said Konkili is detained in Police custody waiting to be formally charged.

“Brief facts are that on January 2, 2023 around 20:00 hours, John Mwanza while in the company of nine others attacked Henry Soneka 37, of John Laing Township and Mathews Chola 24, of Lusaka West and took them to Chibolya compound where they assaulted (Branded) them with a hot wire and a knife. The victim’s sustained burns and cuts on their chests,” he said.

M Mwale said the suspects are also alleged to have stolen a cellular phone and money amounting to K2, 000. 00 from Henry Soneka.

The matter was reported to Police and a manhunt was launched leading to the arrest of ‘Konkili’.

Police are still looking for the other suspects who are on the run.
