Serenje Town Council will procure a total of 5,170 desks in order to mitigate the current deficit in both Muchinga and Serenje Central Constituencies.
Director of Works Mafita Mtonga said the Local Authority has since been directed to ensure that it provides the desks using the CDF before December 31, 2023.
Eng Mtonga also said that the Local Authority has been directed to provide K1million towards the purchase of police motor vehicle using the 2023 CDF to enhance security.
He said this will increase mobility of the police officers to enable them respond promptly to escalating criminal incidences.
Eng Mtonga said this today during a sensitization meeting on additional guidelines provided by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
He also disclosed that through WDCs and CDFCs the Local Authority has been guided to provide an allocation of K1million which will he used towards the electrification of identified public institutions of critical social-economic importance both in peri-urban and rural areas.
Other 2023 projects will include construction and rehabilitation of maternity wings; improve water and sanitation systems in public facilities, provision for sustainable solid waste management and construction of at least one Chief’s palace.
The meeting also heard that through the 2023 CDF, the Local Authority has been directed to purchase ambulances to respond to medical emergencies in the Constituencies.
The sensitization meeting was attended by Serenje Member of Parliament Mr George Kandafula, his Constituency Development Fund Chairperson Mr Malama Chota and Muchinga Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairperson Mr Charles Sakala.
Others present were chairpersons and Secretaries from 21 Ward Development Committees (WDC) Muchinga and Serenje Central Constituency.
