68 motorists nabbed for drunk driving

By Staff Writer
The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has apprehended 68 motorists for drink driving during New Years eve across the country with Livingstone and Kitwe recording the highest numbers.

This was during a combined operation between the RTSA and the Zambia Police Service under the Drive Sober campaign which has been a success in reducing lawlessness on the road during the festive season.

The combined team has been tasked to be mainly on the lookout for road infringements like driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving and unlicensed drivers among others.

Other offences with high numbers were expired road tax, excessive speed, and expired test certificate.

The Agency is therefore, cautioning the public to adhere to all road traffic laws and regulations and anyone found violating the Road Traffic Act will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The RTSA would like to remind the public that it would sustain traffic law enforcement patrols after the festive period in order to reduce road traffic crashes.

All road users are reminded to observe all traffic laws and regulations as they engage in various activities that require them to use public roads as the Agency will continue being on high alert and prosecute all traffic offenders across the country.

Members of the public are also implored to be proactive and make use of the RTSA National Call Centre by reporting bad road user behaviour on the Toll Free Line – 983 and the WhatsApp line 0965 429499.
