Over 150,000 candidates that sat for the grade 9 exams have obtained certificates, while 104,000 candidates have obtained statements.
This is out of over 284,000 candidates who sat for the exams.
Zambia has recorded a 54.1% examination progression rate to Grade 10, representing a decrease of 0.3%t from the 54.4% attained in 2021.
Education Minister Douglas Syakalima said the number of candidates that obtained statements in 2022 decreased by 2.03% from 38.54% .
And Mr Syakalima said despite all 449,839 candidates at grade 7 level progressing to grade 8, this is the last time automatic progression will be used.
Speaking during the announcement of the results, the Minister also directed the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) to introduce a fail grade mechanism to end the automatic progression of learners from primary to secondary education.
Mr Syakalima also announced that there were no reported leakages of examination question papers during the 2022 Grade 7 and 9 exams.
Meanwhile, ECZ Director Michael Chilala said the new examination reforms will be implemented next year as the Council plans to start e-testing for learners.
Dr Chilala adds that ECZ has also withheld results for candidates that were involved in exam malpractice as investigations are ongoing.
