The Drug Enforcement Commission has apprehended Allan Muvundo the man who had escaped from the DEC premises on July 15, 2022.
Muvundo brandished a gun at DEC when he escaped from the DEC premises and in the process shot an innocent bystander in the arm.
DEC Public Relations Officer Hussein Khan said Muvundo was apprehended in a special operation conducted at a known hotel in Lusaka.
Mr Khan said a body search was conducted on Muvundo which led to the discovery of 0.57 grammes of cocaine and one round of ammunition.
He said a search was also conducted at a house in Kalingalinga where a pistol was recovered with four rounds of ammunition.
Mr Khan said another pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition was recovered in Mumbwa.
He said this is the pistol Muvundo brandished when he escaped from the DEC premises and in the process shot an innocent bystander in the arm.
“Muvundo 29, of Kalundu in Lusaka has since been charged and arrested for, Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Disorderly Conduct at Drug Enforcement Commission Premises contrary to section 64 (k) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Escaping from Lawful Custody contrary to section 119 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” he said.
Mr Khan said the case of the shooting of the bystander is being investigated by the Police.
He his detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon
