Serenje Council approves K78,million, 2023 budget

Serenje Town Council has approved a total of K78, 027, 836 budget in its 2023 financial year.

The budget which has seen an increase of 10.11 percent from the 2022 budget which stood at K51.4 million was approved during a Special Council Meeting.

Public Relations officer Oscar Malipenga said the increase has been necessitated by an increase in the allocation of the Constituency Development Funds from K25.7million to K28.3million in the 2023 national budget and also the upward adjustments of some fees and charges.

Mr Malipenga said the budget has been prepared in accordance with Section 41 of the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 and the amended Constitution Act No. 2 of 2016 part IX on the system of Devolved Governance (Article 147 (2) and part XI on the system of the Local Government.

He said the special council was informed that the K78million will be raised from locally generated revenue and government support through the Local Government Equalization Fund (LGEF), Grant in lieu of rates and the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

“The meeting also heard that in an effort to enhance revenue collection, Serenje Town Council intends to venture into mining preparations of a new valuation roll and engage the Ward Development Committees in revenue collection and identification of possible revenue collections points.

However, the budget will be effected after final authorization by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development,” he said.
