Kafue Council remains suspended

Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Garry Nkombo, has assured the residents of Kafue that the suspended council will be reinstated as soon as investigations are completed.

Mr Nkombo says government had no alternative but to suspend the council because of the confusion that surrounded its operations.

Mr Nkombo was speaking in Kafue yesterday, during the handover of empowerment funds and equipment purchased through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“I want to make it clear and put it on record that in sending the councillors home, I acted within the law that was established. Because people were going to kill each other here in Kafue. They disregarded the police and the police were overpowered” he said

The Minister added that the government will not allow any act of disorder by anyone and that the suspension of the Kafue Council will serve as an example to others.

“We did not come into office through demonstrations. We came with a message of order,” Mr Nkombo explained.

Mr Nkombo who is also Mazabuka Member of Parliament suspended the Kafue Council following wrangles at the council chambers.
