A-19- year old man of Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township has committed suicide after gruesomely stabbing his 17-year old niece who was his lover.
Emmanuel Sonta found out that his girlfriend was having a secret affair with another man.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident occurred yesterday between 18:00 and 19:00hours
Mr Mweemba said Emmanuel before taking his own life by consuming a suspected poison had stabbed the victim Elizabeth Phiri who was a pupil at Kampemba combined school and was in grade six.
He said that the victim Elizabeth sustained multiple injuries on the neck on the face, on her right hand and left palm.
Mr Mweemba also said the suspect also sustained a deep cut on the stomach and on the right side of the leg and is suspected to have taken his life after realizing what he did.
“Brief facts are that Steven Sonta aged 60 reported that his son Emmanuel Sonta a school leaver stabbed to death his niece Elizabeth Phiri a grade six pupil. The crime scene was visited by the police and they recovered an empty bottle of doom and a knife was found beside the body of Elizabeth, the deceased Elizabeth is alleged to have had a secret affair with her uncle Emmanuel also deceased, which infuriated the other boy who also had an affair with her, who had just known of what was happening. In fear of the parents, Emmanuel confronted her and it led to the killings” he said.
Mr Mweemba said that the suspect Emmanuel was rushed to Kitwe Teaching hospital where he was pronounced dead few minutes later.
He said the two bodies are currently lying in Kitwe Teaching hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
