Construction works of the K2 million box culverts along the Masumba Nsefu road are progressing well.
Mambwe Town Council Public Relations Officer Grace Lungu said the culvert which lies along the Masumba -Nsefu road, leading to Senior Chief Nsefu’s palace, was washed away during the 2019 floods which left devastating effect on a number of crossing points.
Ms Lungu since then the people using this road have been having challenges using the crossing point, therefore this construction project is being treated as an emergency, to allow people can have access to safer crossing points going forward.
“You may be aware Mambwe Town Council is among the councils that received funds from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development from the 2022 budgetary allocation towards rural infrastructure development, for immediate rehabilitation of critical crossing points.
She said the crossing point is one of the projects being funded by these funds.
Ms Lungi said the scope of works includes the construction of road layers through embankments (putting compacted layers of gravel), road alignment, clearing and grabbing.
Other works includes stone pitching, the construction of wing walls and concreate deck, as well as construction and installation of a 2.4 by 2.4 meters culvert box.
