Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says there is need to introduce long-acting injectable Anti-Retro Viral drugs for people living with HIV to replace tablets that are taken daily.
Ms Masebo said the injectable drugs which are taken occasionally are key in effective HIV Prevention for adolescent girls and young women.
She was speaking during the 15th annual National HIV, TB, Covid-19, Viral hepatitis Technical Conference in Lusaka yesterdayday.
Meanwhile Infectious Diseases Director Lloyd Mulenga expressed hope that the country will move to medicines that will be taken once or twice a year for infections such as HIV and Tuberculosis.
And in a speech read on his behalf by Emily Burrows, American Ambassador to Zambia MICHAEL GONZALES said his government will continue to support Zambia in managing epidemics.
Speaking at the same Event UNAIDS Country Director Tharcisse Barihuta said it is unfortunate that some pregnant women do not access anti-retro viral treatment.
