Mchinji-Mwami one stop border post commissioned

President Hakainde Hichilema and Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera have officially commissioned the Mchinji-Mwami one stop border post.

They both described the border post as an important milestone in the development of Zambia and Malawi.

President Hichilema has since directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to as soon as possible meet with their Malawian counterpart to come up with solutions to the many roadblocks that affect quick movement of traffic from the border.

President Hichilema also thanked cooperating partners in the actualisation of the one stop border post, noting that it is the most practical and beneficial way of working with the people on the African continent.

And President Chakwera said the one stop border post is the first of its kind to be opened in Malawi.

He said Malawi is eager to learn from Zambia as the country already has similar operational facilities.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of eastern province and Mchinji of Malawi expressed delight at the infrastructure development.

And Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga said he is committed to easing the way of doing business between the two countries.

Malawi’s Trade and Industry Minister, Mark Katsonga, said the border facility will contribute to the elimination of trade barriers between Zambia and his country.

African Development Bank (AFDB) the project financiers Country Manager Zambia, Raubil Olaniyi Durowoju  appealed to the two countries to prioritise maintenance of the facilities.
