Government through the Ministry of Health has prioritize employment of specialized paramedical personnel in order to reduce on premature complications and deliveries in the country.
Speaking at the commemoration of the World Premature Day at Nchanga North General Hospital in Chingola yesterday, District Commission Raphael Chimupi said there is no known cause and prevention in the entire world for premature delivery.
Meanwhile, Provincial Health Director Charles Mwinuna in a speech read for him by Nchanga North Junior Resident Medical officer (JRMO) Benson Chisanga disclosed that about seven thousand (7 000) infants in the country die due to complications of prematurity.
Dr Chisanga called on all stakeholders in the health sector to join hands to improve upon the short and long term measures to survival of premature babies.
Since 1997, November 17th has been marked on the calendar to raise awareness on neonatology, and encourage to improve the treatment and care of all premature babies on an international scale. The aim is to give preemies equal survival chances worldwide without avoidable long-term complications. ZANIS
