Police in Mazabuka have charged and arrested a-44-year-old man of Mazabuka who assaulted the Mayor of Mazabuka.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Bright Hamweenda of Plot C 366 Riverview in Mazabuka is charged for two offences of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Malicious Damage to Property in which the Mayor of Mazabuka is the Complainant.
Mr Hamoonga said the offences are alleged to have been committed on November 5, 2022 at around 20:00 hours at Mazabuka Golf club.
He said the suspect has since been detained in custody and will appear in court soon.
And meanwhile police in Lusaka picked up a dead body of a-36- year old woman identified as Jelin Mwandila of Soweto township who is alleged to have been murdered by the husband.
Mr Hamoonga said that the mother to the victim went to visit her daughter and upon arrival she found her lying unconscious that is when she alerted the landlord who came and checked the victim.
He said after Physical inspection, the body was found with a cut on the head and the husband was not found at home.
Police have instituted investigations into the matter.
The body has been deposited at University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting Post Mortem and burial.
The incident is alleged to have occurred between November 7, 2022 around 22:00 hours and November 8, 2022 at around 10:00 hours.
