Solwezi Council wins gold in CHESS at ZALASA

Solwezi Municipal Council has scooped first position in the female Chess Category at the just ended Zambia Local Authorities Sports Association (ZALASA) tournament that was held at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola from 5th to 8th October, 2022.
In this Category, the Council was represented by Namakau Mwikisa under Planning department who played contenders from Lusaka City Council and Chongwe Municipal Council before emerging victorious.
In football, the Council managed to reach the quarter finals while in the rest of the sports disciplines, the participants played up to the group stages except in the Male 10Km Marathon where the Council was on the fifth and seventeenth positions.
The Council also took part in Volleyball and Pool; both in the Men’s categories while Tug of War and Swimming had both male and female contenders; the other sports discipline being Netball.
In His closing remarks, the ZALASA President Vincent Mwila, who is also Milenge Town Council Chairperson thanked the over 31 Councils that participated in this year’s ZALASA event despite being on short notice.
He emphasised that the ZALASA Tournaments which are held annually are not necessarily aimed at Councils competing per say, but to enhance unity, social interaction and wellness among Council staff.
