Zambia’s top female boxing sensation Catherine Phiri has been slapped with a two year suspension by the African region six Anti-Doping Organization after failing a doping test.
PHIRI’s suspension comes after her samples tested positive on February 26th in the aftermath of the World Boxing Council -WBC- title fight against Kudakwashe Chiwandire.
The tests revealed that phiri used a prohibited drug called Furosemide, which is not a performance enhancing drug but a loop used in management of body swelling conditions.
And the Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board, and National Olympic Committee of Zambia -NOCZ- announced the Suspension of the boxer in Lusaka today.
Board Chairperson Wamunyima Chingumbe said Phiri is ineligible to participate in any professional boxing competition and other competitive sport.
And Phiri’s Manager Christopher Malunga has appealed to fans not lose faith in the boxer.
