Zambia High Commissioner to Kenya, Joyce Kasosa, has called for the actualisation of the seven instruments of collaboration which were signed during the State visit that President Hakainde Hichilema undertook to that country recently.
Ms Kasosa said this when she made her opening remarks at the two days benchmarking exercise taking place at Utalii House in Nairobi on 3 and 4 October.
The benchmarking which is ahead of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo 2022 (MKTE2022) scheduled for October 5 to 7, 2022 is attended by a delegation from the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) led by acting Chief Executive Officer Chavunga Lungu.
The High Commissioner said the Zambian Mission in Nairobi is honoured to have been part of this important benchmarking exercise which is in line with the Mission’s efforts to strengthen the existing bilateral friendship on tourism and hospitality.
She observed that out of the recently signed seven instruments of collaboration during the state visit to Kenya by President Hichilema, three of these are on tourism and that the Mission’s wish is to see more collaborations and engagements developed between Zambia and Kenya on tourism regulation.
And Mr Chavunga Lungu highlighted the importance of the Agency meeting with Kenya’s Tourism Regulatory Authority.
He said it was a way of sharing best practices in the regulation of the Tourism Sector in order to enhance standards of the industry.
Meanwhile, Tourism Regulatory Authority of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr. Norbert Talam welcomed the Zambian delegation and expressed his Authority’s willingness to collaborate and work with ZTA.
The Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE), which is the largest East and Central African travel trade show, is expected to bring together about 200 exhibitors and 150 buyers among other industry partners and media from some of Kenya’s key source markets in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
The ZTA team from Zambia, which also paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner arrived on Sunday, and is currently attending a benchmarking exercise with the Kenya Tourism Authority to learn how the tourism regulatory function is undertaken by the Authority in Kenya.
