BIA Zambia has donated a GD825 heavy equipment engine valued $8,000 to Northern Technical College (NORTEC) in Ndola.
BIA Zambia has donated the heavy equipment engine to NORTEC as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) Programme.
Speaking during the donation BIA Zambia Human Resource Manager Philile Moyo said Northern Technical College (NORTEC) is the second institution of higher learning to receive learning equipment as part of their 120 days CSR drive.
Ms Phelile said BIA group is commemorating 120 years of existence and it was against this background that they have resolved to conduct CSR activities every 120 days.
“NORTEC is the second higher learning institution to benefit from the program. During the first 120 days we cleaned Mindolo market and also donated cleaning materials in April. In August we donated a welding machine to Solwezi Trades making it the first institution of higher learning to benefit from the 120 days initiative and exactly 120 days later we are here. We are yet to engage in more CSR programs,” she said.
And Chairperson of the CSR committee Kenny Kapempe said it was gratifying to see how the institution was expanding.
Mr Kapempe a former student and Ngweshi ward councillor added that BIA Zambia was working hand in hand with Government to drive the skills development agenda and ensure that students are motivated to work hard in an enabling environment with all relevant equipment.
He further stated that NORTEC has been upheld in industry due to the caliber of students that it produces and pledged support to Government through more CSR activities that would offer more practical lessons to students.
NORTEC Acting Principal Martin Kasonso expressed gratitude to BIA Zambia for its continued support to the institution.
Mr Kasonso noted that the donation of the engine could not have come at the right time as this will add value to the provision of quality hands on training in order to meet the needs of industry and contribute to the socio-economic development agenda of our country.
He added that the developmental agenda of the country can best be achieved by cultivating in trainees appropriate skills so as to have a competent, knowledgeable, productive workforce capable of stimulating growth at all levels of the country’s productive strata which is inevitable owing to the availability of new teaching and learning environment.
Mr Kasonso commended BIA Zambia for its continued support to NORTEC through student attachments and internship as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.
