School leaver allegedly commits suicide after failing GCE

A Grade 12 school leaver identified as Jason Chonde who sat for GCE in Luanshya has committed Suicide by hanging himself with a school tie after allegedly failing his GCE exams.

Chonde 18 was found hanging by his father Thomas Chishala 63 yesterday between 11:30 and 16:30 hours, who in turn informed the police of the incident.

Copperbelt Commanding officer Sharon Zulu who confirmed the development in a statement said that brief facts surrounding the case are that, on September, 2022 Thomas Chishala  woke up at around 08:00 hrs with all  family members in good health including the deceased.

‘’At around 11:30 hrs, Chisala left home and went to the market to have his scale repaired leaving everyone at home well. Around 1630hrs he went back home and found the gate locked but he managed to get inside again to his surprise he found the house locked. He then went round the house and found the window to his son’s (now deceased) bedroom open and to his amazement he saw his son hanging from the roof with a school neck tie. He then called on his neighbours to witness what had happened, there after he reported the matter to the police,’’ she said

Ms Zulu said that Police visited the crime scene and confirmed the report, and during inspection Police found a phone for the deceased on his bed upon checking through the phone, it was discovered that the deceased had checked his grade 12 GCE results which showed that he has failed.

It is strongly suspected that this could be the cause for him to take his life the body of the deceased was later deposited to Roan General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.

Ms Zulu also said that the relatives do not suspect any foul play, adding that more information will follow
