Unknown explosive kills three children

Three children aged nine, five and two years old have been killed while playing with an unknown explosive in Mpulungu district.

Other victims a Census enumerator aged 24 years and a 44-year-old woman who are nursing injuries in hospital.

The two victims are believed to have sustained multiple fractures, but are in a stable condition.

Investigations have since been launched to establish what caused the explosion.

And Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao who visited the two survivors in hospital expressed sadness and regret over the ordeal which occurred yesterday.

“The incident is saddening and very regrettable. We have instituted investigations into the matter so that the cause of the explosion is established because three lives have been lost, while two others are in hospital nursing very serious injuries,” he said.

Mpulungu District Commissioner, Geard Sikazwe, was with the minister, identified the deceased as Promise Simusokwe aged two, Philip Simbeye aged nine and Richard Sinkala aged five.

“The two casualties are Evelyn Nachilima aged 44 and Ronald Simutowe aged 24 years, a census enumerator who was on duty,” he said.
