Former Chingola Mayor commends Council for demolishing

By Ireen Mulenga
Former Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo has commended the Chingola Municipal Council for demolishing the houses that were belt along Kasompe air strip in Chingola.

The Former Mayor said that from the time he was in the office, the Municipality warned the people several times not to build houses along the air strip but people took it for granted.

“I think the demolition was long overdue, I remember when I was a Mayor, we went to that area and warned those people not to build in that place, as you are aware this is the only air strip that we have, Chililabombwe doesn’t have and it is at the strategic aspect of Government, so they have done a good job and it’s a lesson to those who are building illegally,” he said.

Mr Tembo said that people should follow the right procedure to acquire land from the Council when ever they want to build.

He has then sympathized with the affected families who lost their properties through demolition.

Mr Tembo has appealed to the affected families to come on open and report the people who sold those pieces of Land to them so that action can be taken.

He said failure to report those people will go Scott free and the developers will lose.

Mr Tembo said that people should discourage unplanned settlement because it will be difficult for the Council to develop Chingola into a City.

“As Chingola we require to boost economic activities, we need to bring investment and for us to do that, we need to have land available, so if the council plan for a certain land and people invade it , I think it’s something that should not tolerate,” he said.

The former Mayor has also appealed to the people encroached land in the cemeteries to take a leaf from what has happened before it is too late.

Mr Tembo has urged the people with forged documents to produce them so that the Council and security wing can follow it up in order to bring the culprits to book.
