Patriotic Front Copperbelt Chairman Nathan Chanda says the party is shocked by the decision of the Chingola Municipal Council to demolish houses of the poor people in Kasompe area without finding alternative places to accommodate them.
Mr Chanda who is also former Mayor of Luanshya said it is inhumane for the council to carry out demolitions, amid cries from the affected people.
He has said in as much as illegalities should not be supported, it is imperative for the Council to engage the people and find alternative land before demolishing houses.
“The Chingola Municipal Council should find alternative land and give it to the affected people without fail, because Civic leaders must always look at the welfare of the people first before harsh decisions are made,” he said.
Mr Chanda also said that it is wrong for the UPND controlled Council to be reactive, instead of been proactive.
“The council could have stopped the construction even through a court order, I also want to urge people seeking to acquire plots to always ensure that they get the plots through the legal means,” he said
