Mines Minister calls for investigations on the machinery at Nchanga open pit damps

Minerals and Mines Development Minister Paul Kabuswe has called for investigations on the people providing machinery to illegal miners at Nchanga open pit damps.

Some illegal miners are doing some mining activities at the pits where Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Sesele mines share a license.
Mr Kabuswe said the people sponsoring the illegal miners with machinery without thinking about the safety of the people should be brought to book.

He said Government want to legalize mining activities by giving licenses to the people in mines that is why they are emphasizing on creating cooperatives.

The Minister said Government stance on illegal mining won’t change hence Government want to formalize mines by giving licenses.

He said government understands that people have resorted to illegal mining because they want to eat and move away from poverty.

Mr Kabuswe said government want a win situation for everyone to benefit.
